Dark Frost by Jennifer Estep

Dark Frost is the third book in the Mythos Academy series, so this review will definitely have spoilers for the first two books. I am addicted to this series now!
Dark Frost (Mythos Academy, #3)
K-Teen

A routine trip to a museum for a school assignment shouldn't be a cause for bloodshed and death, but when Gwen and her friends head to the museum, they and their classmates are attacked by Reapers. The Reapers leave behind an important clue, a map that should guide Gwen to the Heilheim dagger, the last artifact that stands in the way of Loki's return. The attack shows Gwen that she must train and be strong enough to face down the Reapers and to hide the dagger before it falls into the wrong hands. She also is driven by revenge and wants to be the one who kills the Reaper girl. However, she may have to do all this alone. Daphne is angry about her powers quickening and blames others for her puny ability to heal rather than something like fire magic. Logan is upset, once he learns the truth about Gwen knowing part of his secret. When the unthinkable happens, Gwen will be on her own and the fate of the world will hang in the balance.

This one started off quick and stayed fairly fast paced through out the whole book. The excitement is mounting, especially with that ending. I also enjoyed seeing some of the secondary characters be more fleshed out and learning Logan's and Nickamede's secrets.

Favorite Character: Gwen. She is nosy, but caring and even when the worst happens she deals with it. I am also starting to like Logan better and I think their relationship works.

Favorite Quotes: "The next day was exceptionally average. Except, of course, for my aching heart."
"You know, having the fate of the entire world on my shoulders is a lot of freaking pressure."

I think this is my favorite in the series so far and I can't wait to pick up the next one! 4.5 cups of cocoa!

Stacking the Shelves and Showcase Sunday #6

STSmall

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Showcase Sunday is hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits, and Tea and they are memes for sharing books you've purchased, borrowed, or been sent for review. The books can be physical or e-format. It has been a couple of weeks, since I last did a new books post. I have been trying to read what I own, have for review, or already had checked out at the library. I only have review books to share this time. I have been trying to be good!

Review:
Thanks to Netgalley and MacMillan Children's: Farrar, Straus, and Giroux for Second Star!

This is a twist on the Peter Pan story with Wendy caught in a love triangle with Pete and Jas, twists on Peter Pan and Captain Hook. I like twists on classic stories and loved the cover!

Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin Teen for The Girl with the Windup Heart!

The Steampunk Chronicles is one of my favorite series and I was super excited when I received this one! I love the characters and their clothing and their special powers. I think this may be the final one in the series, but I hope not.

Thanks to Edelweiss and Egmont for Of Monsters and Madness!

I haven't read any of Jessica Verday's books yet, but I like twists on Poe's stories. This one is a twist on Annabel Lee and the cover is kind of creepy, so I decided I had to try it!

Hope you all got some great reads!

Well, I did at least finish Attachments, but overall I did not read much. I read 132 pages and am almost half-way through Snow, which is really good. I like the twists Tracy Lynn is putting in the story. Hopefully I can finish Snow soon. I did the cover jigsaw puzzle challenge. I love those! Thanks again to Rachael for hosting!

Rapunzel Read-a-thon: March 8-12

http://rachaelc94.blogspot.com/2014/02/a-month-of-rapunzel-rapunzel-readathon.html
Rachel Turns Pages
The Rapunzel Read-a-thon is hosted by Rachael at Rachael Turns Pages and you can get the button and sign up at this link. Rachael lists the goals as this:
"The goal for this read-a-thon are simple just read. Although this readathon would seem like I want you to read Rapunzel novels I won't require it although I do want to push people to read fairy tales during this readathon. I will hopefully be reading fairy tales to prepare for Fairy Tale Fortnight in April. I'm not going to be picky because nobody likes to be told what to read. Read whatever you want during this Read-a-thon. No matter what you are reading you can join me for the Rapunzel themed challenges I have planned for this week."

I have a few fairytale twists I want to read including Cruel Beauty and Snow. I will post an actual reading lists and goals soon!
