The Page 48 Challenge: Booking in Heels

Today's Bout of Books challenge is hosted by Booking in Heels.

Here's how to join in:
  • Turn to page 48 of your current book, or 48% if you're using an e-reader.
  • Take the first complete sentence on that page and copy it.
  • Now you're going to continue the story! Ignoring the real plot or anything else you know about that book, add four new sentences of your very own. You can morph the plot completely, kill everybody off or go off on a huge tangent - anything goes!
So I turned to page 48 in Ten by Gretchen McNeil
"So you're Tara's cousin?" Lori asked

"So you're Tara's cousin?" Lori asked.
"No, I am her evil twin who also happens to be a half-vampire, half-fae, half-werewolf," Janie replied.
"Oh, I guess that is cool," Lori said as she glanced around for someone who was better at conversation.
"So did you come here alone?" Janie asked while looking at Lori hungrily.

Maybe I have been reading too many paranormal books lately. :)

Cover Love: Ms. Buff

Ms. Buff's challenge was to pick your favorite cover or the funniest cover.
I am really bad about judging a book by its cover. I love beautiful covers and will sometimes checkout a book without reading any of the blurbs, just because it has a pretty, shiny cover. Some of my favorites include The Selection by Kiera Cass and Enchanted by Althea Kontis.

Enchanted (Woodcutter Series, #1)
Harcourt

The Selection (The Selection, #1)
Harper Teen
But my favorite cover is Entwined by Heather Dixon. I love the fonts and the ivy and her beautiful dress! What are some of you favorite covers?

Bout of Books Day 1 Update

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon
I ended up receiving two audiobooks to review in the mail today that are due by the 25 of this month. This changed my plans for audios, since one of the reviews is the second in the series, I have to listen/read to Floors by Patrick Carman. It looks interesting and should be a quick listen/read.
I finished one CD of Crescendo yesterday. I also read 46 pages in Vampire Academy and 26 pages in Ten, for a total of 72 pages. Not bad, considering I have a cold and went to bed by 8:20pm. I also found two new blogs to follow and completed one challenge! I should have just stayed up reading, since I couldn't breathe and therefore did not sleep, but around 5 hours. Hopefully today will be better!

Scientific Discovery: The Book Barbies

I am doing my first Bout of Books Challenge. It is the Scientific Discovery Challenge hosted by The Book Barbies. The challenge is the following:
You have made a scientific discovery (who knew you were so good at science?!) on how to bring fictional characters to life. The problem? The method still isn't *perfect,* so you can only bring two people to life, and they must return to the land of fiction in 30 days. Who will you choose as your bestie and your love interest for that one splendid month? (Feel free to add pictures if you like, but they are not required.)

I would choose Kat Bishop from Ally Carter's Heist Society series. I can just imagine all the fun and trouble we would get into. Kat is extremely loyal to her friends and will do anything from facing down a mob boss or robbing the world's securest museums. She also has a moral compass despite being the daughter of a thief.
Heist Society (Heist Society, #1)
Hyperion

For love interest, the choice is more difficult. Since I read mostly YA, the main heroes are a little too young for me. I do think Luke Garroway from the Mortal Instruments series would be nice. He loves books and loves unconditionally. He is a werewolf, which is a drawback, but he does protect Clary and Jocelyn as well as he does not attack humans. Also the actor playing him in the upcoming film is not bad looking and more my age. :)

Bout of Books 6.0 goals post

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon

This is my second time participating in Bout of Books. The first time I finished my books and did one book challenge. I will try to do two challenges this time and look at around 5 new blogs during the week. My reading list will be

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Ten by Gretchen McNeil
Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa
Jinx by Sage Blackwood

My goal is to try to read at least 50 pages a day. I know I will not finish all of these books during the Bout of Books week, but I will read from these choices.

I will also be listening to Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick and hope to get about halfway through the audiobook. Since I know have two audio reviews to write, I will have to listen to Floors by Patrick Carman first.

Reading Stack #27

I finished all of my books on the last reading stack, except a reread of Clockwork Prince, before the year ended. I am excited now that I can finally start some of the books for the various challenges I decided to do this year. On my stack now I have Jinx by Blackwood for my Random Read and Vampire Academy by Mead for the Paranormal Challenge. I have a few others I am browsing at the moment, but they will probably not be added until Bout of Books starts. So far I am enjoying the two on my stack. I have heard good things about VA and Jinx seems like a fun middle grades read. What are you reading this week?

January Random Read

Random Reads
This is a meme hosted by Sarah at imlovingbooks.com. You can choose to use Goodreads or create your own list or use your bookshelves. The idea is to use random.org and type in the number of books on your list. Whatever number you receive is your random read for the month. I have decided at least for the first few months to use the books on my Kindle as my list. I buy or get free far too many books on my Kindle and then never read them! I had a list of 200 and my random number was 106, which was Jinx by Sage Blackwood.
I received this from the publisher using Edelweiss. I love magical stories and this one has wizards, trolls, and an orphaned boy who may be more than what he seems.

HarperCollins

This releases on January 8. My review is here.
