Beauty and the Beast by Jenni James

This is one of a series of novellas based on the fairy tales.
Beauty and the Beast (Faerie Tale Collection, #1)

Cecilia believes that the handsome lord that is visiting her will be proposing marriage and the whole town believes this too. When Lord Willington instead tells her he is marrying another girl with better financial and social connections, she accepts this with many tears and with the town's snobbery. When Lord Alexander, someone who has always mocked her, appears at her favorite quiet spot, she immediately accuses him of spying. Lord Alexander on the other hand has had a change of heart and appearance. By day he is his princely self, but by night he is the wolf and the dead witch who cursed him says he will remain so, unless a maiden falls in love with him and the wolf. He has no hope, but as he tries to comfort Cecilia and gets to know her, he begins to dream of a life with her. Unfortunately for the two of them, someone else desires the crown and will not let a silly romance get in the way of his chance.

Jenni James has created a sweet twist on Beauty and the Beast with writing that feels like an original fairytale. The romance is clean and the dark parts are quick with minimal violence.

Favorite Character: Cecilia. I have always liked Beauty in these tales. She is always beautiful on the inside and outside and Cecilia is no exception.

Favorite Quotes: "Girls in forests should always believe what magical beasts say."
"Because when you do not believe it exists, I see the crown upon your brow."

Overall a very good novella and I can't wait to read the next one! 4 cups of cocoa!
