Hourglass by Myra McEntire

If you had a superpower what would it be? For Emerson, she thinks she has the ability to see ghosts, however it turns out her gift is much more. Emerson lost her parents in a tragic accident which resulted in a brief stay at a mental health facility. However her visions started shortly before her parents accident. Em has trouble dealing with her visions, so her brother and guardian, Thomas, looks for people to help. Most are kooks, until Michael shows up. Michael is part of a group of people who work for the Hourglass, a group of people who share similar abilities to Em. Emerson falls for Michael right off the bat, but when he tells her she, not only can see time ripples, but also has the ability to travel to the past, she questions his sanity. Em leans on her friend Lily and finally trusts her family with her secrets. Thrown into the mix is a mysterious, somewhat handsome man named Jack, who may be a vision of the past or a fellow traveller. Emerson must make a dangerous choice about her gift and how it will affect the future.
Favorite Character: Emerson, I loved how real her battle with depression and her visions were and how accurate. She was strong and independent minded, but still seemed like a regular teen girl with a crush. I think Lily also has the potential to be an interesting character and hopefully will have a great role in future books.
Favorite Part: I loved Emerson's interactions with her brother and sister-in-law. They seemed to have just the right amount of authority and amiability.
Favorite Quote: It's amazing what flipping a grown man over her shoulder does for a girl.
You told me that...the first time I saw you, now, in the present, you would...take my breath away. Well. You were right.
Rating: I really liked this book and am looking forward to the next installment. Emerson is a great character. I give it 5 bars of chocolate!
